Can't I just learn to code on YouTube?

Yes, of course, you can, but I question whether that is the best path for you. 

I have reviewed many game-coding youtube videos, some are good and some are not so good.  Here is my take.  Many of the game coding youtube videos I have watched are basically an hour-long walkthrough of coding a computer game with little to no explanation of WHY you would code something that way.  These videos need to be split up into much more manageable chunks to explain one concept simply and clearly.  Plus there needs to be support for the many questions you might have. 

I used to recommend my students watch these game-coding youtube videos as enrichment, but then I ended up spending hours re-explaining everything.  This is not a good use of anyone’s time. I even thought about having my own youtube channel to teach game coding but after careful consideration, I knew there must be a better way. 

This is why I have set up my own online classroom website to host my coding videos in a clear,  concise step-by-step way.  I want to have the best online environment for learning to code and Youtube is simply not the best path for a teacher or a student.

For People Who Already Know How to Code:  This class will guide you through coding three fun games.  I will teach you proper coding techniques, style, and good habits.  In addition, you might not know Python and this course is a great overview to the unique syntax and data structures that Python offers.  Plus you get to code games.  And we all love to code games!!!

What kind of computer access will I need?

You will need an internet-connected computer, tablet or smartphone to watch the course videos. There is an app called Kajabi for the iPhone and Android devices specifically made for watching the course videos.  

To code the games in Python, you will need a computer capable of installing Python (3.x)  and Pygame.  Most any PC, Mac, or Linux machine made in the last 5 years will be fine.  You will need about 100M of hard drive space.  You may need "admin" access to the computer to install Python so if you are using a school computer you may need to ask a teacher to help.

If you are on a Chromebook, tablet or smartphone, it is possible to code these games using a website and/or an app called repl.it!
